  • Just harvested my first cabbage

and it looks great...... but i found a baby caterpillar.... just the one, how can i be sure that there are no more? There is no "holes" that i can see for any to be hiding in.

what is the best way for storing as i have another 5 ready for pulling.

Can i plant my remaining brocolli plants in the empty cabbage bed or is it too late for brocolli to mature now?

I hate seeing an empty bed.

You can't be sure there are no more caterpillars. Really the crop needs to be netted against butterflies.

You can't store cabbage, just cut them as needed.

Yes, you can stick your broccoli in the space

My cabbages are triple netted!!! God knows how it got in there, unless it hatched on something else and crawled under the netting

I really wanted to pull all of them out to make room for broccolli, i'm thinking chop them all, saute some in butter and garlic then freeze, make some soup and freeze and blanching the rest, and u guessed it freezing!!

( think i'm gonna need another freezer!! )

Freeze the cabbage just cut it and stick it in. Just be sure not to wash it as if you wash it before you freeze the cabbage will turn into a mush i wash it once i have de frosted it. works a treat and keeps it tasting fresh.

You could wait a bit and plant Japanese onions when they become available in the GC, or garlic, or broad beans.? Or how about GC leek plants?

Not a great fan of following 'like with like' as you'll have noticed!

By all means still plant your broccoli somewhere though, but only in the same place as the cabbage as a last resort!
