  • I've actually BOUGHT some tommy seed!

Normally I save my own tommy seed, but today I bought a new variety to me. Ferline F1. I was given some to eat last year and they were one of the nicest tasted toms I've ever gobbed. The flavour was akin to Gardeners Delight, but much bigger fruits. The plants seemed to crop heavilly, and apparently they are good on disease resistance. Bit expensive though. We shall see.

Don't forget you can't save seeds from 'em.

Ferline is supposed to be blight resistant too!

Ferline has done me well for a few years now, big strong plant - I grown my toms outside (no greenhouse) and Ferline and Stupice are my two first picks. Will the Ferline stay true though with saved seeds?

Simply by being F1, saved seed should revert to either of the parents. There is a possibility of getting a true Ferline, but it would be touch and go. Someone on the famous auction site is selling Ferline F2, and says that the percentage of plants that stay as Ferline is quite high. I think F1's should be new F1 seed each year to make sure.

Has anyone got any idea of the parentage of these hybrids?

Ferline are a very popular commercially grown tom.

Not grown myself as I try new varieties from the Wyevale 50p seed sale and gardeners delight as a fallback.

Good to hear the flavour is the first thing you mentioned, I generally buy for flavour, but picked Ferline seeds up last month for their supposed blight resistance as I wanted to grow some outside too.
