Im new to this

Hi everyone, Ive got a question that might seem silly to most, I have grown some gherkin plants which are now about 2" tall and I presume need planting out before they get much bigger, ive got the use of a polytunnel but need to know do I need to put nets up so they grow upwards or do they grow on the ground hope someone can help
