  • ID help PSB/Caulis

I planted up a propagator three weeks ago with various things. My 'system' is to draw a diagram of what I've planted in each prop. Anyway, I drew on the back of an envelope, planning to copy it into my gardening diary later. Envelope got thrown away, and I cannot remember everything I planted.

I will recognise most things as the true leaves come through, but I'm growing psb and caulis for the first time - never had space before; and whilst I think both have come through, I can't tell which is which.

One line came through almost a week before the other - is one a faster germinator?

There was a slight purple tinge to the edge of the leaves on the first set, and I thought ah! must be the psb. Then the other ones seemed to show the same thing... At the moment, they look very similar

For those of you who have grown both crops before, at what stage with I be able to tell which is which? I suppose they will be treated/handled similarly for a while.

    Any tips?

I don't think there is really any way of telling for quite a few months yet which is why I'm dead strict with myself on labelling - been caught out like this before. Would suggest that you sow some more as there is plently of time yet (not sowing my PSB until next month) and if you guess you're bound to get it wrong!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I know - I'm annoyed with myself. It's the first time I didn't just write it up in my diary straight away. I usually label too, but couldn't find any (the pack obviously turned up the next day).

I'll do another sowing in a couple of weeks. Lesson learned, I hope! Thanks.

I've done exactly the same with my squash - have no idea what is what I've got some PSB seedlings up in pots at the moment, I'll try and take a picture and get it uploaded over the weekend if nobody else has done by then - although have to say, I have PSB, sprouts and cabbage sitting out there at the moment and they all look very very alike

Not sure if this will help Rhona but I found these. The 1st one is PSB & the 2nd Cauli. They look the same to me.
