  • I thought I was being clever... :)

Growing an alarming amount of tomatillos.... What on earth do I do with them all?!!! We have a huge bowlful in the fridge, we all keep having one every now and then. I took some into work, nobody was very impressed. I like them, but I can't manage to eat them all. HELP HELP!! Chutney perhaps? I've made a load into salsa, but beyond that I am at a loss. Has anyone made a recipe with them that works? )

Puree and freeze great for gravy, spag bol etc., etc.

SWMBO also does home made soup with toms onions and spices beats shop bought every time. And she freezes this to for those cold winter days.

I tend to chop them up and freeze for using in Mexican cooking. This year I've also cooked, pureed and bottled a load to save on freezer space. Don't rate them raw but made into a salsa verde or enchiladas sauce they're fab. Easiest one i know involves cooking them till soft in a bit of water then adding green chilies, garlic and coriander. Blitz with a bit of milk then fry in pan till thickened. Then use as an enchiladas sauce as normal. Use at least half my harvest like this or similar recipes.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

OOh Alison, sounds lovely! Made an amazing (and large) pot of salsa with them last night. I thought I'd made too much for the four of us - it disappeared really quite fast actually! They all loved it, and getting my lot to eat veg is a challenge at the best of times! So much tastier than tomato salsa - which I love.

Thanks that is an an interesting idea, I have a lot of toms hence I would need suitable containers for the method, and I think I can use used tin cans for the freezing method with some cling film stretched over the top. I have some other container more suitable for the freezer to. I don't really have enough bottle or jar with suitable seals for anything outside a freezer.
The good thing about freezing is it is pretty fool proof as no bacteria or stuff like that is gonna grow.
I have an old freezer in the garage I never use, however knowing my luck it has probably seize up.
