  • I think I have got a bit carried away......

Well, as a newbie grower, I sowed a couple of extra seeds of each variety of tomato that I have (as I read that not everything will germinate) and they have all germinated and seem to be growing well.

I have the following to water!

    Blondkopfchen x 3

    Sweet Pea Currant x 3

    Garden Pearl x 4

    Marmande x 3

    Totem x 3

    Plum Roma x 3

    Tom Thumb x 2

    Maskotka x 2

    Premium Cherry x 2

    Sun Gold x 3

    Gardeners Delight x 3

I have put some gold baby plum and baby red plum in a tub to germinate tonight, I think I had better decide which of the neighbours I am going to give some of these to!

      I ended up with 47 tomato plants - I've only got a 6x4 greenhouse

I've tried to give them away to family, friends and now I've just decided to grow the rest of them on myself outside and risk the blight!!

I know I should get tough at pulling out and throwing away spare seedlings but I just can't bare it

My first year of container growing, when we had limited space - someone offered about 20 seedlings of gardener's delight on freecycle - so I went to pick them up. I thought - that looks more than 20.....as I counted out and repotted 165 seedlings.

Ho humm....I kept taking them to the office and to meetings and sold them for pence but it paid for the pots and the compost. I kept about 50 and had a great season.....and no blight that year either. YAY!!!

I went mad sowing, after losing to blight last year, i have dozens of different varieties, from black russian, pineapple, golden, plum, cherry, gardeners delight etc..
the first lot i sowed did well, but when i went away and my mum looked after my dog, she decided to pot them on, with no labels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so i resowed with labels and have tom plants coming out of my ears, about 60 of unknown variety. given lots away and planted some in every corner i can think of, keeping the labelled ones either on the plot or in pots at home.
If anyone is near me and wants roma, cherry or sub arctic plenty let me know, there are loads but i dont know which is which.
I do know black russian, golden and pineapple and have some going too!

Yes I am wondering how many Tom's I am going to have this year as I have 8 Sweet Olive plants, 12 Gardeners Delight and 8 Berry F1's.

I get the feeling this year that I am going to be spending just as much time in the kitchen making sauces and blanching various veggies ready for the freezING as I am actually tending to my Veg.

I am going to have a go at making my own Tomato Ketchup this year so I should have no problems using them all up, "he hopes"!

I counted mine yesterday, not including the ones I've given away or have given away, I've got 59. In a 6x6 greenhouse. Last year i think I had 14...uh oh....
Not to worry, I think it's a early symptom of 'Yeehaw, i grew stuff' disease. It's catching, and it just get's worse
