  • I like square pots

    Just saying!

They fit in the rectangular trays better - unlike those accursed round pots that waste valuable space.

Anyone come up with a reason for round (small) pots? I can see that they are more aesthetic in some situations (when large) but they make mo sense to me when one is handling seedlings and what not.

Hear hear!! Why round in general? Round yogurt pots taking up more of their fair share in the fridge, round bins dominating the floor. And it's torture looking at all that wasted space around seedlings in round pots...

Strange as it may seem I agree with you Baldy Square pots are my pot of choice too!
However, I "think" plants knock out of round pots better than square ones. Must be something to do with the corners

I find the small cacti pots 2.5" (round) perfect for sowing seed as they seem to be made out of a very flexible and robust plastic, therefore it is easy to remove the rootball whether it is a single seed or multi seed & the pot is still good as new, you normally end up trashing the cheap square pots after one sowing.
If you are looking for space saving then the square ones are the way to go, I have got my eyes on some square pots for next year, same plastic as the 2.5", but more expensive in the short term----but I have still got 100's of the small round ones.
Feed the soil, not the plants.
            (helps if you have cluckies)

Most of my pots were given to me so I use what I have, think there's a few square ones amongst them though. I start most seeds of in newspaper pots with loo rolls for beans so I don't really use that many pots.

Or you'll end up like one of those Japanese watermelons, Bren.
Forgive me for my pages of text.

I read the title and thought that you were rewriting the lyrics to "Baby got Back"

I like square pots aswell I also find that you get more square toilet roll tube to a tray than round ones.

^^^^ thank goodness Jay - I've been singing it ever since seeing this thread. I was looking for the you tube link!

As for square pots - a pot is a pot, I've really not thought about it. I did briefly think I'd rather have square (final) pots for my runners than MFB's - but have got no further than that.

You go ahead and use your square pots - equal opportunities for all pots
