  • I have chilli armpits!

Maybe I should put my arms down? Eh? Eh? Do you see what I did there?
    I'm here all week....
Seriously, there is a question behind it...
I'm growing chillies for the first time and they're good and healthy etc.. But does one pinch oot the armpits like on some tomato plants?

Varieties are; scotch bonnet (oohya) jalapeņo and Hungarian wax.
Quick answers please.... Or I'll tell another joke!

And I know there's no 'e' in chilli. A wee mistake.

Curious myself-sorry for hijacking. Some of mine went bushy-probably my fault for checking if last year's comfrey pong still had any nutrients in it...
I'll leave mine and see what happens.

I don't, but i have heard of pinching out the growing tip to encourage bushing (which i might try this year). So removing anything that takes prevents that bushiness seems pointless. Could be wrong though.

So three men walk into a bar.....

            Na I'm only kidding.
It is a bit confusing right enough. A new species for me as mentioned earlier. I'll not do anything drastic right now. Might give them a feed right enough. And pot on to bigger pot.

You need to get your coat, (for the chilly armpits, not the bad jokes). I pinch out the tops when they're large enough but I don't remove any "armpits". I've never really noticed any if I'm honest. I treat them mean to keep them keen, only potting on to the next size pot when they look a bit tired!

I let them bush (My chillies not my armpits!)

i would only pinch em out if you're growing in a low light position and they have gone leggy (excessively tall and spindly). If not i just leave them to get on with it!

Thanks chilliking. They're quite healthy so I'll leave well alone. Cheers

Can you plant chillis lower down in the pots like you do with toms.

For all those of you with bushy armpits I recommend waxing or Veet! If it's particularly bad and you have chillis growing try ringing your GP;-)

I do nothing with my peppers/chillis other than feed and water.
