  • I have buckets...and a thank you!!!

Well after asking all the larger stores in my area for buckets I was told "we don't keep them there sent away now" so today I tried the local flower stall in town and the gentleman there was so nice . He told me I could take as many of the buckets without handels as I liked as he did not like them and I could come back each week I was there and take more ....great .thank you your very nice .. Think I will have a lot of these buckets by the end of the year ....

I certainly won't .last time I got large cooking oil drums from work and forgot about the drain holes and had to make then carefully after they were full so not the same mistake twice..

Just my luck. Live in eastbourne for four years and had no idea this was an option. Move away and within a couple of months people are raking in the buckets. Nevermind, fair play!

If you carefull removed SOME of the base of the pot (ie leave a rim of plastic) you can use this pot to stack onto another pot also filled with compost. They work well for hungry plants and if you are short of growing space can be used elsewhere in the garden. I either leave the rim or cut out the bottom leaving an X shape. This supports a bit of folded newspaper, which in turn holds the compost in the bucket while I am moving them into place. Once the paper starts to get damp it disintigrates and the roots can go through.

As it goes i've just poppe to Asda to get some bits and have left with 10 good size flower buckets. A little bit late for sowing lots of bits but may try and get some plants in or some herbs or carrots. Gives me something to do out there anyway!

Thanks for sharing Germinater! I remember how happy I was when I finally got some flower buckets too! It took a month of checking to see if there were any available at the local supermarket, but then I hit the jackpot.
I've used them to plant up tomatoes, dwarf beans, radishes so far.
Makes you feel like you're 'in' with the vine crowd!! hehe
