  • I am a novice pea grower...

I planted peas from seed which are growing beautifully but now the pods are appearing they look like mange tout!! This is the first time growing veggies for me so are they going to transform into pea pods or are they really mange tout!!

Hello and welcome to the vine. Don't panic, your peas will fill out in time. Don't let them get too fat though or they can be a bit dry.

They should fatten up quite quickly judging from mine (also first time growing them). What variety are they?

They'll fill out over the next couple of weeks. Wait until they look completely round, as opposed to flat, then pick 'em.

An interesting test is whether you can bring them back to the kitchen without eating them all first.

Had my first crop a few days ago. they made it to the kitchen although some were still very small. Absolutely delicious!
I asked a friend who is much more experienced than me how to tell if the peas inside the pods are big enough. He said a lot of it is guess work but if you are able to hold them up to the light before picking you should be able to see how big the peas inside are
