  • Hunter potatoes

This subject may have already been discussed but I've not been on the forum for a while.

I got the freebie Hunter potatoes earlier in the year from Fothergills but was very disappointed in them. The yield was much lighter than my other varieties (and they weren't great) but they also broke up very easily even though I steamed them, and even when they were scraped developed a thick brown outer layer like a skin, after they were cooked. As for flavour - not a lot! DH was not impressed.

The light yields on all my potatoes I put down to inexperience and not having the allotment in time to properly prepare a manured/fertilized bed before planting, but the lack of flavour was very disappointing, and I won't be looking to buy this variety.

What results did the rest of you get with them, or can you point me to the posts where this was discussed before - I can't find a search option.
