I have just suffered my first bit of slug damage this year, some of my Chinese Cabbage seedlings have been stripped. I have been very pleased with the lack of damage and I put it down to the fact that I used Bio-friend slug banish this year. I have had a hunt and only found four slugs in the plot. The last two years have been terrible for slugs, is it better this year or is it the slug banish that has done the job?

Could be, but maybe not. Last night I laid a carpet of B&Q pellets and today only got one slug.There's pleasure sure in being mad that only madmen know - Anon -

They've eaten every bit of rocket I planted outside my greenhouse, on my front garden I have approximately 30 sticks around the outside of my lawn which at one time were marigolds. My early lettuce was regularly eaten by snails, but I seem to have won the battle with them, and I've now found slime on my runner beans. What is the point?

Mine are feeling a bit sick, right now. I went out yesterday and put slug pellets into every container I have, as it's getting ridiculous, now. Only containers (and the middle of the crocosmia, where they shelter), as I'm using up the nasty pellets I was given - I normally use the organic ones/Nemaslug! This morning there were a lot of dead or dying ones. Feel bad, now, but some crops were really starting to suffer and a young potato plant is no more, my pepper has yet to produce one FOR ME and I've only harvested about 8 green beans in total!!! War has begun!Comment

Can I just put in an endorsement for Nemaslug? Used it in spring last year and there has been a significant reduction in numbers ever since. Now its a newsworthy announcement whenever one is discovered. I also suspect that the really cold winter this year has also helped decimate the population.Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

This year i stopped companion planting because the little blighters scoffed the companions and then to keep the companions company they scoffed mi veg.. i just couldn't win.
I've had help this year.. 2 big fat toad's..and they loves slugs, between us i think were winning the war, i've not had much damage, the odd nibbled courgette, that's about it.
I hope they come back next year with there family, thats if the big fat sods can remember where i live

Nematodes worked well early on but have clearly worn off now.

We have a family of hedgehogs and we had a Thrushes nest this year,so you'll have to ask them as I've not seen any slugs or snails,clearly the benefit of never using those dreadfull slug pellets.Comment

Been interesting to read the replies. Some of my neighbours have had no problems others just as bad as ever. I used the Bio-friend slug banish in preference to nemaslug as I have very heavy clay soil which I'm told doesn't suit nemaslug. I am working on the clay - compost, manure etc so maybe in a year or two I'll try the nemaslug. On the other hand the Bio-friend is a lot more economical if it does last 9 months.History teaches us that history teaches us nothing. - HegelComment

ok .. here is cheap and ez go for slug/snail victoms..
buy a tape with both ends adhesives. take a salt in a bucket and put salt on one side and stick the other side around ur containers...Comment
