  • How tall do cucumber plants grow?!

    Hi

Well, the greenhouse is a standard 8x6 and at least 1 plant has reached the roof in the middle. Not sure where to train em to grow next. Do they stop growing?!

    Thanks

Depends on the variety but usually no. I plant at one end of my 8 x 6, take them up a cane to roof height then along a piece of cord. It is not unusual to have cumbers hanging down the length of the GH. There are some varieties that throw out side shoots and you could grow these in a more compact way by supporting the side shoots away from the main stem.

When the main stem has reached the roof I top it and the sideshoots then grow.

I found a peice of string 201cm long. Does that answer your question?

I think the normal practice is to grow it up to the roof, pinch out the top, and let only two side shoots start coming back down again.

#3 My strings are 8ft in the GH one each side for cumbers, then of course there is the 12ft curl in the glass topped lean to for more cumbers. Finally there are 3 more 8ft ones between a fence and the lean to but these are for runners, potentially 14ft long runner beans, guess I like my runners
