  • How many tomato plants are you growing and what varieties

I don't know if I really should share this as I did not even realise till just now how many different tomatoes and the ridiculous amount of plants I have.

I have around 350-400 tomato plants, although a lot of them are going to new homes but I am still left with around 150-200 myself, I think I might have to cull some. It has been very easy to be lead a stray with the tomato, it is my most favourite thing to grow and one of my favourite to eat. I have some at 3 months old and about to be planted out and some barely breaking up the soil.

    My varieties are;

    Black krim
    Brandy wine black
    Black cherry
    Golden sunburst
    Charlie Chaplin
    Alicante
    Gardener delight
    Roma
    100's and 1000's
    Tumberling tom red and yellow
Sweet and neat red and yellow
    Sweet millions
    Cherry falls
    Príncipe borghese
    Baby pink plum
    Lizzano
    Firecracker
    Beefsteak
    Chocolate stripes
    Red pear
    Yellow pear
    Orange banana
    Tigerella
    Big rainbow
    Azoychka
    Sun drop
    German orange strawberry
    Mini bell
    Moneymaker
    Tamina
    Banana legs
    Big league
    Black zebra cherry
    Valencia
    Delicious
    Red zebra
    Purple calabash
    Currant gold rush
    Currant sweet pea

    I know I have a problem
But to be fair I jar up about 100 jars of sauce,
    Jar whole plum,
    Make tonnes of soup
    My own tom purée
    And sun dry 1000's
I also freeze whole cherry toms in my veg freezer

Come on guys how many do you have?
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

150-200 is a lot of plants, where on earth are you going to put them all. I find that I can easily look after 20 odd plants (30 tops) are fine to care for but growing, training, watering, supporting, feeding, harvesting and processing that many scares the hell out of me! Planting mine later but will be wanting a max of 3 plants of various of my favourite varieties but don't have the list to hand.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Oh I'm feeling a bit of a failure here...new to this so bear with me! I'm only growing 2 varieties, Tumbling Toms and Maskotka. I have no greenhouse so I am limited to what and where to grow things. On saying that I have 16 plants of each variety, more than enough for me I think! I grew the Tumbling Toms last year and had a load of toms much to my surprise and used them for all sorts. Looking forward to what the Maskotka gives this year.

Too early to say - haven't finished sowing yet. Not even decided what ones to try this year. Ask me again in a month or two.

I grow Maskotka in hanging baskets in my tunnel, I find them really tasty.

I live in a house with a relatively big garden, just to scared to get going really! Love my lawn, especially in summer when it's not soggy but really want to grow veg! No good at decision making!

I do go to a weekly market and sell my produce, and I won't be keeping them all, I am hopping to sell a lot of the spare plants, hopefully I will keep a couple of each but still takes me not far off a 100 I have acres of land as well, so no shortage of space, water is my main concern.
I just got really carried away
Last year I had 80 plants and did not have much spare and have run out of a lot of bits. Can't wait for the first tom turning red.

I find that I don't have time to look after too many so end up with weaker, rubbishy plants so now grow less and actually get more produce as I have more time to devote to each of them. Am guessing your location is a big help though as you're not needing to do the window shuffle until May

                              Sungold about 12 I will keep about 3 - 4

Tumbling Tom Yellow about 20 will keep about 3-4

Terenzo only 7 as that was a packet of seeds will keep 3-4

Gardeners Delight around 45 will keeps about 6

                              So plenty to give away

I also have red pear and sweet baby seeds which I will save for next year.
