Not a daft question at all

. They only say it because of blight

Put the potatoes one side and the tomatoes the other side if at all possible however it has to do with companion planting so its not necessarily going to make much difference, I personally don't think, as blight is an airborne disease and therefore if its going to get it, it will. If you put tomatoes one side and the potatoes the other side it shouldn't transfer from plant to plant as easily.
