I've got some lovely chillies and peppers and a couple of Cape gooseberry plants and want to over winter them but havnt got a clue how to can anyone point me in the right direction please.

I've done Cape Gooseberry for a few years now - its basically a perennial for me in the unheated GH - though I'm a long way South of you so temps. will likely be a bit better over the Winter for me. I cut it right back to about a foot in height with just a handul of leaves. It then gets mostly ignored till Sping - just a little bit of water from time to time.
Overwintered my first chilli last year and its been a success but I'm no expert - again I cut the plant right back to a couple of inches - but some bubble wrap round it and left it in the GH.
Not very scientific but both seemed easy enough for me. Someone more experienced will be along with more detailed info..sigpic

I've overwintered a chilli plant for 3 years until it died did nothing special just left it in a north facing window sill keeping it almost dry.Location....East Midlands.Comment

I overwinter chili plants in the house, mines a north west facing windowsill, cooler room. Cut back a bit and leave pretty dry, odd dash of water.
I over winter fuchsia in cold greenhouse, left drier , then cut back before growth starts and start watering again. A lot remove from pots. I've never bothered and they keep coming back.Northern England.Comment

I bring mine into the house; greenhouse is too cold to overwinter them in..
Cut them back, change compost, very little watering, watch for greenfly...
Some live, some die; not very scientific

Same here, but window is West facing - I overwinter sweet peppers and this year also managed to keep a tomato plant going for cuttings this spring.Originally posted by Bren In Pots View Post
Fuchsias and other half hardy perennials overwinter in their pots in the cold greenhouse, most survive all but the coldest winters.Comment
