  • How to check soil temps without shocking the neighbours

Some advice needed please. I want to use nematode this year to control the slugs. According to the blurb the soil temp must be about 5 degrees C. I don't want to buy a soil thermometer just for this. Can I stick the green house thermometer in the soil. If so how deep does it need to go.
i am not going to use the "old" method. Not with my rheumatism

With my tender genes any temperature below 30 degrees centigrade feels chilly

What do you do with your 'orses in 'ull, kelvin?

Bal, I'm using a digital jam thermometer with a probe to check soil temp - and I don't have to show anyone my horse

Someone told me this week that you put your hand into the soil and if you can tolerate the cold for a minute it's warm enough.

Problem is, based on that I'd be fine in February, and my Mum'd have about 5 minutes in August...

Just to add a minor potential upset, last time I read anything on nemotoads the temperture was 7C.
                            Might need a bigger thermometer.

Maybe they have genetically engineered more cold tolerant nemotoads since then.
