  • Heritage Seed People ???

Which is the group that's trying to conserve and promote heritage seeds? The ones where you can't buy seeds, but if you join you get "given" packs of seeds for free?

I thought that was Garden Organic, but I think I've got myself confuddled!

    Thanks

So it is Garden Organic? But I've just received a catalogue from them - with prices?! Has something changed?

Thje catalogue is for the organic seeds that are available through Garden Organic. The Heritage Seed Library is run by them but you can't buy these seeds, hence the membership fee. If you go into Garden Organic's website you'll find a link to the HSL. You can join this without having to join Garden organic.

Thanks everyone, think I follow now.

I joined the heritage seed Library earlier this year, too late to be able to pick my seeds from the catalogue, so I've been (im)patiently waiting for the new catalogue to come out. I'll assume it should be fairly soon, and will just keep waiting

            Thanks again

For the 6 packets of seeds; you should get the list around December time - if I remember rightly.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the seed swap board here; lots of us will be saving seed and swapping once this year's seed is all in and dried out.

Think I got mine beginning of December last year, chose my seeds pretty quickly and got all my first choices which was fab. Have saved seed from the peas and beans and have loads more to grow next year. Will also try and save some from the purple carrots but not done that before so will have to wait and see if it works OK for me.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've had a disastrous year with HSL seeds, almost of my Peas and beans were dug up by my chooks when they were about 6" high. One cheeky girl broke into my "fruit Cage" that I erected to keep them out! have managed to save a few and will grow again next year. and the tom that I grew, a whole 1 tomato from it . Feel real bad as it's the 1st year that I've grown for the HSL. I've not eaten anything from them as every little bit has gone into ensuring the seeds I have will provide better for next year

Will endeavour to do better by them next year.

Was that as Guardian RT: or in general?

My Guardian toms were RUBBISH! Hardly any germination and no toms at all.

The beans have been alot better and I'm still harvesting them as dry beans for them.

got 3 packets from them in the beginning of the year. The peewit dwarf beans though you might like, the colouring is nice and have almost 2 varieties one inverse of the other

They sent me one courtesy packet of peas which I've enjoyed ... with advice from this forum, I'm trying to save some seeds. If it works out, I'll have some to offer. Fingers crossed!

I recommend the Snow White Tomato seeds from HSL. I had them this year and they had a subtle lemony flavour to them. Deelish

Here's a pic of all the seeds that I managed to save Zazen, you can see what I mean about the colouring....
