I was forking over my compost bins this w/e and found an unbroken egg about 18" down in one of them, the bins are usually uncovered. It's happened before and I'm guessing squirrels but never really found the cause.
Any ideas?

I've found similar in my flower beds last year, a couple of inches down & completely unbroken. I assumed it to be squirrels too but the soil surface appeared like it had been undisturbed. -

In 25 years I've never seen a rat but squirrels by a full 747 seat load!
I do wonder where the eggs come from as I am 100% sure there are no Hens locally - maybe from a milkman leaving on the doorstep?Comment

Imagine capturing that on camera - squirrel stealing eggs from the doorstep - wonderful, or would the image of a rat rolling an egg across to your compost be better?

I once found a perfect hot cross bun buried deep down in a large pot of compost - had been there ages as weeds had grown on the surface! Funny thing is it really gave me quite a fright when I first uncovered it! ...... random or what!!!Last edited by Headfry; 15-02-2011, 09:08 AM.Comment

I'd go with a rat too, I have had one in my compost bin too. Both rat and egg
I keep turning the compost so they don't get too comfortable and so far no problems.
