  • Help with Onions

I've never grown onions before and my onions have got what looks like a flower at the top, do these turn into seeds or do i need to cut it off?

    Many thanks

yes they turn into seeds if you dont want to save the seed for next year cut them off but use these onions first as they dont keep well hope this helps feel quite proud as this is the first time i'v known the answer lol

It's what is referred to as 'bolting'. It's usually down to the plant being 'stressed' - either a hot spell, or lack of water/nutrients, can spark it off.

As ww says, use them first as they won't keep.

I have a few onions that I must have missed/discarded from last year that grew near my pond. They have all bolted - looks a bit like the Kremlin by my pond it does.
