  • Help with chilli please

    So this is my first year growing chillies from seed. The large one came from a mixed packet, please can anyone tell me what sort it's likely to be and what I can do with it? (I'm just trying to get as many peeps on the Norty step as possible with that question)

    I know the others are Cayenne Heatwave but I'm proud of my first attempts! SIL tried a yellow one and there were tears (he eats them raw)

    A nice Red Horn by the looks of it.

    Slip it in a hot dish at the weekend.

        Could be a ripe Anaheim, mine are that big just still green at the moment.

        Stuffing would be an option :-)

          Looks like my Corno Di Toro Rosso sweet pepper - do you know if it is a chili or a sweet pep?

            You've got a reason to be proud-they look lovely.I tried the first time with Jalapenos-only 1 plant produced flowers and they all dropped.No hot dish for me at the weekend...
            Nevermind,will try again next year...

              It's a chilli - the packet did say they were a mix of shapes, sizes, colours and ranged from mild to very hot. I'm used to using chilli to add heat to dishes, but I'm guessing this is a mild pepper and the plan is to stuff it - it's taken ages to turn red and there are 2 more still green, which I guess may never ripen.

                I'd say it's a Corno, looks very similar to one of my plants. I brought all my chilli plants inside about 2 weeks ago and covered the windowsills with them, all the green ones have now suddenly started to ripen, the temperature difference seems to be the thing. They're all mature plants, but they were just getting too cold outside. I hope to overwinter them all as well as save seeds from the pick of the bunch. I have 9 different types this year and reckon on having another 5+ on top of that next year.

                  They aren't annuals so if you have space you can bring them inside and they'll ripen/produce a second crop, you can trim them if they are a bit big too

                    I'm hoping to keep them going as long as possible in the greenhouse, they're still ripening at the moment, but some of them will be coming in before it gets very cold.

                    Sanjed, do they cross pollinate?

                      I grew Chillishake (mixed peppers) this year, and it's a bit of a gamble. Some of them are instantly recognizable (Joes Long), but some aren't. I guess it's just a question of suck it and see!!!

                        That's it ChilliShake - but I don't really recognise any! I've been spending time on various chilli websites trying to identify what I've got, but it's almost impossible - next year I want to know what I'm growing!
