  • Help!! -- caterpillars!

    Argh!

I've just been in my garden hugging and loving up my Veg and nooo!! There is a massive infestation of tiny green caterpillars eating up my veggies!! Ugh! They are on my Toms, Squash, Cucumber, Purple Sprouting and Cauliflower leaves (probably on much more but thats all I could see before I ran like to wind back to ask you guys for help!!)

Any ideas as to how to get rid please?

    Thanks

Get some plastic gloves on and squish away...You don't need the gloves but they stop your fingers getting yucky)...or if you know someone with chooks stick em all in a bucket and feed to the chooks.

Hi thanks for your reply! So the best way is the painstaking way? Would you advise against any form of pest control or do they not work?

I tried an organic spray for foodcrops last year. The only way it worked on caterpillars was if I squooshed them off the plant with the spray ... then stomped on them.

I tried a bug spray from Wilkinsons called "Ultimate Bug Spray" or something very similar, and it seemed to work, but they eventually came back and I didnt want to spray my lettuce to many times, so it was squish squish again.

I squish them or if there's only a few I feed them to the big spiders in my garden, make sure you have a good look under the leaf to see if there's any eggs and squish them as well...or all your hard work will be for nothing.
            Happy squishing.
