Now that my aubergine, pepper and chilli seedlings are about 4-5cm tall (with only seed leaf), should I be keeping them in my heated propogator, or can I turn it off with the lid off or can I keep them on the windowsill?

Provided they are not in too chilly a position, I'd turn the propergator off, but leave the lid on and vents open to alow them to acclimatise for a few days.
I'd then look to repot them, burying them up to the seed leaves. Keep them covered at this point and out of direct sunlight to allow them to recover. After a week or so, leave them uncovered... but watch them so that they don't get frazzled.
When transplanting, you risk damaging roots, so the idea is to help them stop losing more water through their leaves through transpiration than they can take up through their roots. Keeping them out of direct sunlight at this stage helps whilst they get them selves settled in again.

Rightly or wrongly mine come straight out of the propagator once they have come through and then go on the windowsill

I don't use a heated prop at all, they just sit on the top of the fridge...

I don't give extra heat either. You then have an extra step to acclimatise them to a house room, before acclimatising them to the greenhouse.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

My aubs and toms have been potted on and are in the conservatory and I just cover them with the lid (vented) at night. Peppers and Aubs still on the kitchen window sill and I cover them the same at night.S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig
