  • Has anyone actually grown samphire?

Hello peeps, and happy bank holiday weekend

My question today - have any of you first hand experience of growing samphire? (a quick forum search didn't immediately show up anything)

It seems to be the latest trendy veg, turning up in the cookery sections of most broad sheets. I'd love to have a go at growing it, but no idea where to start. Would prefer to start it from seed, as I haven't seen the plants in our local GC's, and mail order is not always that reliable.

Next time I go for a walk on the dunes/beach I am going to take a photo of it with me in case I can find it growing wild. Mind you if I found some I wouldn't eat it, (because of all the dog walkers ) but I might try a little propagating or transplanting!
    Never say never!

Mat bought some, but I don't think he's still on here to ask how he got on. http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ire_10674.html

we live on the coast of an estuary and there is tonnes of samphire growing down there, i wouldn't worry about any poop contamination, fairly sure the tide will wash anything away! great to grab a freebie, i used to work in a smokehouse where a tiny pack costs £3! x
