    hardening off onion sets

    The onion sets I have been starting off on my windowsill are now mostly all at a few inches tall.
    Would it be ok to move them outside now?
    I wasnt really planning to put them in the ground for another couple of weeks yet (only just put the well rotted manure over the top of the bed) but I have tons of space in my greenhouse, (although it has lost 50% of its glass)
    OH keeps promising to replace the glass in the greenhouse, but he hasnt got round to it yet.
    I need my windowsill really as I want to plant up the rest of the onion sets before they rot in the bag. I also intend starting off my parsnips today.

    I'm sure someone will be along to disagree, but, just stick the extra sets in the ground. I planted/sowed mine a few weeks ago outside and they're all around 7 inches tall. I also had a winter variety that are doing really well out there. Is there a specific reason you're starting them in modules?
    Those that you've started will most likely need hardening off before planting, but the others should be fine.

      I usually start mine in modules - makes sure they develop roots before planting out and makes it harder for the birds to pull them out. They don't need to be started indoors though - they should be fine in the greenhouse.

        I was going to echo that.

        It's only tender plants that need to be started indoors. Personally, I think it's too early for parsnips - the soil is still wet & cold

          My greenhouse is still waiting for OH to replace the glass, I had hoped that having 48 pots on the windowsill would get him to hurry up, but it doesnt seem to have worked!

            I managed to get a greenhouse out of Himself (well I bought it, but he had to agree to it). Our windowsills are STILL full of plants for 7 months of the year
