  • Hand Pollinating - quickie

no pun intended from the title

My female pumpkin flowers were open this morning, so I pulled off a male one and set to work - stripped off the leaves from the male flower to expose the stamen (?) and then prodded away at the female thingy. Tapped it a bit and could see the pollen fall off - is that all there is to it? I probably poked each female flower for about 10 secs, is that enough?

Wow, impressed I didn't make a lude remark posting that

There is a female 'area' with 3 'prongs', the pollen needs to go into that general area.

    phew!

the male protrusion fits nicely into this area, if inserted gently.

I never bother, just let them get on with it themselves and all is always well although you do need to diy if you're seed saving

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
