  • Growing Turmeric!

I bought these yellow stickered roots of turmeric for 99p.
Has anyone grown Turmeric and can give me some ideas about what to expect? If not, I'll treat them like Ginger root, and lay them horizontally in a shallow tray and hope for the best

Hi Veggiechicken - can't help with turmeric question, but you've answered a question for me regarding root ginger, which I use loads of.
Is it ok to use pieces bought from supermarket, then? I've read in the gardening mags that stuff which isn't meant as a growing medium, you shouldn't use?
Anyway, how many pieces of ginger would you recommend using and how deep do they need to be planted? What size trays do you use?
And how long does it take to grow?
    More questions than answers!!!

Gosh! I've never even seen turmeric root before, only powdered stuff. Have you had a goggle around t'interweb to see what other folk do?

Any idea what the plant/tree (?) looks like if it grows?

This is exciting, you must keep us posted if you get it growing.
