  • Growing swedes

Hi. I am new to this site. I am also new to growing veg. I planted out some swedes bought from a garden centre about 8 weeks ago. They seem to be growing well but some are taller than the others and seem to be developing flowers. Is this a problem.

I've moved your thread out of Growing Techniques and onto an appropriate board.

You should pinch out the flower stalk as this is called bolting when they run to seed early(flowering) and they should continue to grow but might not store as well as the ones that have not flowered.

Swede's become 'woody' once they have bolted. I would chuck em, or in my case feed em to the chooks who love em!
It would free up the ground for something to sow or plant now that you know would be successful!
