    Growing squash in tunnels?

    Has anyone tried this and does it work? I've been considering/wondering what other than cucumbers/tomatoes I could grow in 1 and have also been looking for a tunnel at a reasonable price and found this 4.5m x 2m PolyTunnel Greenhouse Pollytunnel Grow Garden House Green Houses New on eBay!
    Any advise on squash and/or tunnel greatly appreciated

      I love my tunnel. You can grow just about anything in it that you can grow outside, and some things you can't grow outside of course. I grew squashes last year and they were very happy scrambling amongst everything else and generally taking over the world. Might consider a climbing frame next time though .

        They make a lot of leaf grown in a poly tunnel and tend to take over.

            I've grown a courgette rather than a trailing squash in my polytunnel in the past and it was HUGE and produced masses of fruits but really did take up far too much space. I'm guessing that a squash would be even worse and would rather take over.

            Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

            Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              I agree. I grow one bush courgette in the tunnel for really early fruit and last year one really late one to push the season to the limit because outside was so rubbish but even they are huge, prone to mildew and too nice for slugs to hide in. I did do squash last year. I grew them in Morrison's buckets in the tunnel until I needed the space and then slashed the bottom off the pot and buried it in the courgette bed outside. I though I might try stuffing the "rings" with newspaper this year to make a bottom and then moving them outside without having to keep destroying the Morrison's buckets. There is a picture somewhere (sorry I can't find it) of a man who just grew one totally enormous pumpkin in his tunnel, it was like Day of the Triffids or the Devil's Snare thing out of Harry Potter 1 - only more scary!
