Hi I grew french bean sultana last year and have sown some more for this year. It was an excellent cropper last year, got loads of it. Because I don't have huge amounts of space, I grew mine in a ready made bean grow bag an am going to do the same this year. Have put plenty of manure in with the compost and they need regular watering. Also found the slugs loved them too.

Hi Grandad Peter, welcome to the vine. Writing where you did for the last post is fine.

I also grow my beans in containers and find they are slightly less vulnerable to slug and snail damage that way. I start them off indoors, first by chitting them (soak over night then put on damp kitchen paper until a root starts to grow), then in individual pots, and I don't plant them out until there are at least 2 true leaves so they have some chance to survive any slug damage.
