  • Green tomatoes

Hi, this year I have made my first attempt at growing tomatoes on my patio. I have had a bumper crop but unfortunately they are still green with no sign of going red. Is there still time for them to go red? If not, what can I make with green tomatoes please! All suggestions welcome. I have a feeling it is now too cold for them outside.

Cheers for that, that was really useful. Just wished they had turned red though!

Some will turn red off the plant - whereabouts are you in the UK, maybe time yet? We've still got a few outdoor & greenhouse toms cropping.

Unfortunately, we are in the frozen North 11 miles west of Leeds. Maybe I will wait another week.

Are they in pots? If so you could bring them indoors, that would give them the extra time to turn red. You could try picking a few off and see if they turn on your window sill, I do that with any green ones that get knocked off. I've heard putting a banana skin next to them helps too.

Hi, I am in leeds and have had the same problem with my polytunnel toms. I hung a couple of bananas in there and they are slowly but surely ripening. The riper/blacker the banana gets the more red tomsI am getting.

Just to thank everyone for their advice earlier in the year. I can happily say everything worked. My tomatoes all turned red and I am still eating the last of them. Brilliant thanks. Didn't think they were going to turn but suddenly I had a box of red tomatoes!

Same story here. I picked a huge box full of green tomatoes and was looking for ways of using them up. I now have a box full of red tomatoes having just left them there. Made pizza toppings, salsa, chilli and all sorts out of them.
