  • Green manure

Still new to veg gardening but am wondering if I plant a green manure in my raised beds this year to make it all lovely for next year can I put chicken manure pellets in too or would that be too much, maybe just one or the other do you think?
    Please help you lovely lot?????

Green manures can be useful if the beds would otherwise be empty through winter. They hold on to some of the nutrients which would otherwise be leached out of the soil by winter rains. They also add humus to the soil when they are dug in and rot down and you can't have too much of that.
You can sow Phacelia now although it might not survive a hard winter, Winter Tares are tough and smother weeds well, Ryegrass makes a lot of bulk but some find it harder to dig in

I saw several different types in packs in a garden centre last year. Didn't buy them or try them as didn't have a veg bed at the time.

Kings seeds and Edwin Tucker both have good selections. Tuckers have a lot of info about using them, also Garden Organic.
