  • Got any gourd advice?

Taken on a bit of a challenge, gourd growing wise, the full sorry tale of which you can read at the link below.

Has anyone got any really special tricks to growing big and healthy gourds? I'm after that clincher that'll see me through to a win.

    Thanks, John

I can grow them OK, but I've never been able to dry/cure one properly

If you look along the runners at the base of a leaf stalk there may be a swelling, this is an auxiliary root. Cover this with soil so it grows and provides your gourd with extra food.

Later on cut off the ends of the runners so strength is put into the gourds and not extra leaves - but don't do this too early as the more leaf area the better. Cheers, Tony.

Thanks for the advice Tony... I'll do that.

I had the same problem this Winter Two Sheds... all but one gourd went grey and the only one to survive didn't dry out at all!
