  • Giant potatoes!

Hi, we're merrily harvesting our Rockets spuds, but each plant seems to have one giant tattie, and then only a couple of what I would think would be termd "salad" potatoes. We started digging them up a few weeks ago now, but it seems to be the same all through. Any ideas what we did wrong or could change next time? They were planted in ground which had just been dug up from lawn, and we earthed up with compost (could that be the problem, too much goodness to the top spud?). cheers.

Don't know the answer Mac, but I did the same. Converted a grassy area and a lot of the spuds weigh 3/4 lb each!!. Still taste the same though, and as mine are Aran Pilot they are good for jackets and chips. Also had a few with scabs, even though I lined each planting hole with grass clippings. Again, they scrubbed up (or scraped) well and the taste wasn't affected.
Gardening's all about the surprises you get. Keeps our brains active with the question "I wonder why.....!!)
