    garlic

    I realise now having read some threads here that I planted garlic at the wrong time. I think I planted ours* early/mid April last year.

    Is it too late to plant afresh, or shall I leave these later in the year?

    Are these the ones you planted last April?

    I find the best time to plant is Oct / Nov but you can also plant some varieties in the spring (preferably earlier than April though, assuming you're in the UK). You can pull them green but they're fully ready and can be dried in early summer when the green stuff dies down. Need a few more details about yours though before I can comment further

      Yes pictures is of ones we planted around last april.

      the bigger ones are starting to turn yellow (top picture).
      and some of the smaller ones too.
      am in the midlands.

        The old country lore is - plant on the shortest day, harvest on the longest - but like Alison, I generally plant in November.

        Early spring, say first week of March should also be OK. The harvest will be a little later though.

        p.s - You will get much more specific advice on all your gardening questions if you add your location to your profile, growing conditions vary enormously even in the relatively small British Isles.

          If it was planted last April then I'd be very surprised if it did anything now and would expect it to bolt come the warmer weather but if you've got the space you could always leave it.

            I'd dig one up and see what it's doing. If it still looks like a leek, at the end - then leave it. If they have cloved up then you can eat them. I suspect they will look like a leek though.

              You can eat them as wet garlic though!

              I planted some, the year before last, in april and havested in Sept - lovely in salad and soup!
