    what's the best methods of storing garlic other than drying it off and plaiting it up ? is freezing it ok or.............
    there are only 10 types of people, those who understand binary , and those who don't!!

    What's wrong with drying it? That is the traditional method and works better than any other and concetrating and saving flavour. I dry mine on the soil for a few days then move them to the conservatory for final drying. They never get Plaited as we work through them throughout the summmer and autumn.

      I have just dug up my 67 garlic bulbs and dried them on a rack for a couple of days outside in the hot sun. I then read that they shouldn't be left in the sun due to them practically cooking. Does anyone know if this will affect how long they can be stored as I might struggle to get through that lot in a few months. I was hoping for at least 9 months of storage as they are softneck.

        They can cook if they are drying under glass but if they're outside I can't see how. I sometimes use a single sheet of newspaper to shield them from the direct sunshine. Well I do that with my onions anyway.

          Thanks. I'll try that with the 300 onions I have! I will make sure I avoid direct sunlight from now on.
