  • Garlic rust

Hi I noticed some rust on my garlic plants this morning - what do people generally do, try and control it, or ignore it?

^^^ I'm not 'liking' your rust, 1Bee, just that I'm not the only one!

Mine are 'glowing' with rust, had same last year, bulbs were OK in the end, bit small.

Think I did remove some of the leaves, but doesn't really help much.

I leave them to it. I get a decent garlic crop as a rule; I don't know if the rust has affected the yield because I've never not had rust!

I read about sulphate of potash helping protect against rust but never tried it? I had a little bit of rust on a few overwintered,in the ground for over a year leeks (they were tiny & I left them in there last summer to grow & they did ok,better than pencil size ). I peeled off the outer leaves & they were fine inside & it hasn't spread to my garlic next to it (yet!)
