  • Garlic mutation???

Hey guys I'm growing some garlic in the green house this year mainly because of the bad spring we have had, and it was given to me by a famous chef (JO) who I worked for in Cambridge and don't want it to die=[ I don't know the breed but its a purple clove colour.

Anyway to the matter at hand. It's growing what appears to be a clove or new bulb in the stem above the ground? Or is it a bug that I will have to cut out at all???

Any of you guys seen this before I know my dad mentioned about it that's why I'm digging for more info.

    Cheers

Cut the stem off and chopped up and put it through your mashed totties like chives, very garlicky and very tastey.

Yes it's one of the ways in which alliums propagate - they make new cloves and sometimes they are up the stem. Nothing to worry about.

Cheers for the advise and the article reference. At least I have nothing to worry about then=] I just didn't want it to be a killer as I only have 2 clove that survived the harsh spring.

If I was to cut the stem of just below the bulb in the stem would it have any affects on the main bulb underground, kill the plant or shock it to much to mature do you think??
