    Garlic grow-off

    I've been looking for a soft neck garlic to plant in spring to complement my hard neck garlic. In wilko today I found germadour & casablanca. Well, I couldn't resist the chance of a grow-off.

    Will be growing them side by side, & comparing results. My money's on germadour though....

    Don't want to upset you Humph, but I've just bought lots of garlic at 10p a pack in Wyevale GC

    Germidour x3, Solent White x3, Marco x2, Cristo x3
    That's 11 packs, containing 19 heads of garlic = £1.10

    Germidour says "Plant in Autumn". The others are to plant Autumn or Spring.

      Im on a bit of a garlic trial as well lol, may take a tad longer.
      I planted some of the garlic from lidl back in October which is growing fine.
      Apparently though they wont split in the first year so im gonna keep on saving the cloves and replanting, just hope i live long enough .
      cant remember the name but its the usual suspect from spain in all the supermarkets /

      also have early purple white and solent white on the go to keep me happy .

      Im also off to wyevele tomorrow for a bargain VC, two weeks ago they had grape vines at half price, hoping theyve dropped a bit more and my gh may get a new addition

        By the time I left the GC, nearly all the bulbs had been sold. There were some onion sets left - Radar, Troy, Shakespeare, Electric, Senshyu Yellow.
        Fruit bushes were half price but no grapes in Cardiff.

            We don't have a Wyevale or almost anything near us so to your cheap garlic

            I read up on Germidour & some places say autumn, some say spring & some say both - go figure?

            May shove it in the fridge for a bit before planting - or maybe just half of it!!!

              There's a Wyevale in Carmarthen but that's not very near you!
              I've been looking up Germidour too - as you say, they can't decide. Doesn't really matter as I'm going to bung 'em in anyway.
              I'm thinking of making a permanent garlic bed - that can be pulled green or mature or left to seed and multiply.
              Not sure how well it will work but its lazy - and I'm like that!
