The little B..b..b..b...lighters have eaten my Broccoli! But they only seem to have just eaten the bigger outer leaves - then I watered them with the hosta lady's garlic repellent- whether this will prove effective remains to be seen!!

Will the smaller inner leaves still grow, they are just forming? They were approx 6" plants when I put them in - or shall I bite the bullet and buy some replacement plants?

My PSbs stems are surrounded by a barrier of oyster chook grit which seems to be wiorking very very well

I heap a mound of sand around tender plants. I've got clay soil that needs breaking down so it's not a big deal. cheaper than those slug stoppa granules.

Slugs will go for any tender young plants ... I have to start everything in modules and plant it out once it's tough (and high) enough to withstand a chewing

I'm with you TS, it at least gives the plants a chance against the slimy b's. I'm still using plastic bottle "cloches" sometimes as well until the young plants are established.

This year they devoured my melons inside my greenhouse, so had to grow more. I rarely sow anything into ground, but try and grow plants to a decent size in the g/h to make them able to withstand a slug attack.
Soul destroying though I know when you have a look and see nothing but small green stumps sticking out of the ground.
