  • Free seeds for community groups?

Don't know quite where this thread should go but since it's veg related, here goes.

The food group section of our local climate action group is trying to encourage people to have a go at growing their own vegetables at home and we tried a day last year in which we swapped seeds and traded small quantities of seeds and plants. Amongst the various educational stands (tables really) we had a childrens' corner where children were able to sown their beans in a pot to take home.

We're setting up a community kitchen garden to help people learn how to grow veg too.

The seed day was such a success that we're repeating it early in 2009 so preparations are under way.

Tuckers donated a lot of seeds last year and we were grateful for those but I wonder if anyone out there knows of any other seed company that will donate seeds for community action such as this. It'd be nice to have a variety.

    Would appreciate any thoughts.

most companies decide on charitable donations for the year in april when they know what their budget is for the year, might be worth contacting seed companies, b&Q wilkies etc to ask, they can only say no

Thanks for that response Lynda. We'll have to try that.

        Hi Dinah

Could you pop your location into your profile, you might find that people local to you might be able to give you more info, esp local seed companies/nurseries they might have links with.
