  • Forum runs too slow - any solutions?

On my computer it takes ages to load up each page on the forum. The Grow Your Own bar at the top of the screen comes up immediately, but I have to wait around 30-60 seconds for the rest of the page to load.

I am using Firefox, but Explorer does the same thing. I've used three different computers at home and they all do the same. I am on TalkTalk.

I never used to have this problem with the forum, but the go slow has been an issue for a few months now.

Last week I went on this site at work and it all loaded instantaneously, so maybe it is something to do with my internet connection at home. But I never have a problem with other websites, including forums.

Does anybody know why this is happening and what I can do about it? It's so incredibly frustrating that I can't make the most of this forum because I simply don't have enough time to load each page.

A number of people have posted about this issue and mostly they were with TalkTalk which I suspect is where the problem lies. Have you cleared out your temp files and all the accumulated rubbish from trawling the internet? A programme like CCleaner is safe and does a good job, and you can tell it which cookies to keep.

It does seem to be something with talk talk.
We will be having a major upgrade fairly soon- so hang on in there!!!

There is a thread about this somewhere....

Talk Talk costumers have been having problems with the vine I'm led to believe. The Moderators have been trying to sort this out by deleting long threads on the vine which I think helps a little. But have you deleted all browsing history, empted your re-cycle bin, run a de-fraged etc, this sometimes helps. I'm on Goggle Chrome but I also have Explorer which I find to be like a slug at loading anything let alone the vine. I run "Advanced System Care" basic...it's free.

If you go into your programme files, then select "accessories" and click on "command prompt" then type in the command "tracert www.growfrutiandveg.co.uk" without the quotes. The attachment to this message shows you what to expect.

You will most likely find that on the 2nd 3rd or 4th columns a much larger number than you see in my screenshot. This big number shows where the bottleneck is.

Can you do this and let us know how you get on?

Thanks to everybody for the suggestions, not all of which I completely understand.

I have run the command prompt and it shows the attached.

However, note that I have no problem with the site "www.growfruitandveg.co.uk" - which loads fine - it's the grapevine forum that takes 30-60 seconds to load each page.

I tried inputting "www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/grapevine/" in the command prompt but that gave me the message "unable to resolve target name".

I dont believe theres ANY upgrade being done at all, i had major problems with talktalk last year, internet running slow, losing it completely at times, we worked out we were spending £50-£60 a month on phone calls to them to sort it. They told me about the imminent upgrade then, in the next few weeks, (i got told sept '10)

They then tried to con me into taking another 12 months contract out, by offering me 6 months for free (the 12 months starts after the six months, so ties you in for 18 months)

when we moved to BT, they cut me off 6 days early, and left me with no internet for 6 days at all, and then have sent me a bill every month for my internet (been with bt now since oct 2010)

I now refuse to pay, obviously, and phone them due to the cost involved of their "low premium number" They just dont seem to know whats going on with their company. They sent a guy out the other night, he wasked had we recieved our information pack... he got sent packing, politely, he then came back the following day asking the same question!! Same Guy, obviously dont keep a record of where he had already been!

Obviously this is my own experience of talktalk, but i would never touch them again, and i have 3 friend who have also had similar probs, i would strongly advise anyone who is with them to move. BT has worked for me, although i am aware it may not work for everyone.

A Vine upgrade Splatcat - we wouldn't know about a TT upgrade.

Not that it would change issues with TT; but as a customer the only way to get them to look at it is if every TT customer who has problems logs it with them.

Our TalkTalk connection does seem to drop out for a few minutes from time to time, but apart from that we haven't had any problems with it. It runs pretty fast for all websites except the Grapevine....

This is a well known problem with the vine, talktalk, and the Explorer browser, a lethal combination. I get round it by using Firefox for the Vine only. All other forums work well with talktalk and the Explorer.
