Has anybody tried joining bits of fleece by sewing with a machine ? The fleece I have is not quite big enough for my bed and I have been wondering if it can be sewn satisfactorily. Or maybe bonded together using something like Bondaweb. Any thoughts ?

If you have a sewing machine, then go for it!! You will probably have to use paper under the fleece to stop it chewing in the feeder teeth (that is if you have a machine the same vintage as mine). However it sounds like a really good idea. I wouldn't go for Bondaweb as you need to heat seal it and may melt the fleece. Also Bondaweb doesn't really stand up to getting wet. -

if you do 2 or 3 rows next to each other, it should be fine, it will spread the load and shouldn't ripComment

Ha - me and sewing machines don't get on.
That duct tape idea has saved me from a lot of swearing when the time comes to stitch my various net curtains together into an anti-butterfly net for the brassicas - I shall use the same green gaffer tape I bought the other day to fix up my rubbish plastic greenhouse

Yes, you should def. use a stabliser like RustyLady says: just put some paper (A4 is fine) underneath the fleece as you sew it, to stop it getting dragged into the feed.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.Comment
