  • First attempt at pumpkins - 2009 harvest

I still have several more ripening on the allotment, plus one in the oven being turned into pumpkin pie.

Not bad for a first attempt.

WOW! Fabulous, especially for your first year!

This is my 2nd year & I've managed 1 (I only had two plants and 1 got attacked by slugs)

    Regards

Mine is still 'on the vine' and gradually turning orange but is there anything I can do to help it ripen a bit quicker?

I carefully turned mine as I found they ripen on the side facing the sun and stay green on the other side. You have to be careful not to twist them off the plant though.

Other than that, I grew mine in pockets of composted stable manure (brought in bags from the garden centre).

            Woo hoo, they are fab.

Can we have a pic of the Pumpkin Pie, or better still, can you cut us a slice and pop the kettle on?

They look like mighty fine pumpkins there SimonA. Congratulations. Don't know why but whenever I see a harvest of pumpkins all gathered together I can't help but smile. Something about their brightly coloured skins just cheers me up.

Thanks for sharing them with us.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.
