  • Fertilser Questions.....

If i use chicken pellet style maure for leafy veggies (nitrogen needing) and Tomato feed for fruiting bushes what should i use for tubers?

Unfortunately i don't have any nettles or comfrey....

Could i suspend chicken pellets in water to create a liquid feed mix? I know this can be done using sheeps manure and a hessian bag but would it be the same?

what is an example of a foliage feed?

What is wrong with cat poo in your garden? other than the awful smell?

    AAAANNNNDDD

How does one go about making a worm farm?

    Thankyou in advance!

Root growth is usually dependant on phosphates. Not sure whether tubers are classed as roots though? If they are, bonemeal is an organic phosphate as is superphosphate which I think is bones treated with acid or something like that!
If the tubers you are referring to are maincrop tatties, it is usually recommended to start feeding with a potassium based feed once they start flowering. Potassium has a hadening effect and assists in fruit set. The longer you can keep the tops growing hard and feeding the tubers the bigger the crop. Nitro will encourage soft growth and diminish the under ground crop!

Seaweed feed can be used as a soil or foliage feed, I believe its a good all-round tonic for most fruit and veg and has plenty of trace elements. I'm using it for my fruits until my comfrey 'stew' has brewed!

Cat poo can be quite harmful, it can contain nasties like toxoplasmosis.

There are loads of websites that tell you how to make a wormery. e.g.
How to Build a Wormery - Garden - The Environment Site Green Living Guides
        DIY Wormery

Cat poo in your garden is bad because it means there are *cats* in your garden, digging up your plants! (Oh, yeah, and they can carry diseases too, but it's the digging I can't stand...)

I'm going to be growing comfrey next year. No matter what the benefits of nettles may be - and there are many, I know - nothing (for me) can outweigh the part where they sting you. Urgh.
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
