When the first lot of flowers have gone and left weeny tomatoes.

Set means when the fruits have just started to form. The flowers have dropped off and you can see tiny little tomatoes. Make sure you use a special tomato fertiliser though, they don't need too much nitrogen now.

Does it have to be liquid food, or is the dried alright ? I just have one teeny weeny little tomato showing on one plant - none of the other flowers have fallen off yet or exposed a little green thing. On some the flowers seem to be taking quite a long time to open.

I've had one for a few days, today I looked and I have at least 10! Plus a few more flowers looking like they might drop off soon. It's so exciting...

In the past, I've deliberately left some tom plants unfed and just grown them on. There was no discernable difference between them and the plants I fed ( some with propriety feed and some with 'nettle tea'). I came to the conclusion that as long as the plants don't die, I'm going to get tomatoes. More important that you start out with good healthy plants in the first place. Once they're growing well, they'll put up with most things we do to them
