    Fave tasting spuds?

    After reading nick's comment, about Maris Peer being a maincrop but being eaten as small baby spuds, I wondered about spud flavours.

    So whats your fave spuddy to grow and why?

    Oh and has anyone grown Anya (in a container)?
    To see a world in a grain of sand
    And a heaven in a wild flower

    Haven't grown them (yet) but pink fir apple great tasting potatoe. Anya pretty good too.

      King Edwards, cos they make jolly good roasties, unfortunately they don't doo to good round here So I grow Picasso instead which is almost as good.

        My fav is also King Eds & I put some maincrop in last week (lets hope they grow, this is my first time growing spuds!) ... They make the BEST mash -with lashings of Butter & hot milk - Super jackets (with lashings off butter!) & the best roasties & chips! (more fat ... hmm seems to be an obvious trend in my cooking!! )

        I like salad potatoes - Jersey Royals, but seem to find the rest run-of-the-mill - but having said that, I have never grown my own - may be this could be the answer to my problem!!

          Wow! i wish we'd got some King Eddies now. (Next year I think)

          Aren't Jersey Royals also known as International Kidney? But of course their growing situation is very different in Jersey.

            Pink Fur are a great salad and roasting potato, very nutty, as are their cousin, Anya. Cara is one of my favourites, easy to grow, great creamy taste as mash, good fluffy structure as a roaster and great chips.

                I like the waxy potato Sante and Charlotte, which are ok for chips and very good for potatoes.

                  My fave spud is the early Alsia Craig. My Dad always grew it and at over 70yrs old I'm continuing with the tradition. Although I do like second plantings (for Christmas) and for this I prefer Charlotte, grown in containers. But then, different ships, different cap tallies.

                    My all time favourite is Arran Pilot. It tastes great and although it is an early potato you get good sized spuds.

                      Didn't realise there was an Ailsa Spud as well Hopalong. I knew about the Toms & Onions. Just goes to show, you learn sumat new every day.

                          Has to be a tie between Pink Fir Apple and Rooster.
                          Am growing these in the garden, along with British Queen, Foremost, Arran Pilot and Charlotte - so favourites list might be added to, but the current incumbents will not be replaced
