Haven't grown cauliflowers before but love them so am going to try next year, I just wanted to know what tpye crops in the shortest time?

not sure of the fastest cropping but I grew four types last year and by far the best cropping/taste was 'Clapton F1' from T&M, it is also clubroot resistant (my plot is plagued by it)

i grew all the year round ...... planted june harvesting small heads now, but not impressed, there isn't enough leaf to bend over the heads, and they have all been brown/pink cos of he sun/weather/ whatever, also watch out for slugs ........ i'm trying some self blanching ones next time.Comment

I've grown those too - but I need more discipline to sow little and often - after cutting a dozen (none too white) heads last weekend, I have a freezer full of cauli cheese, but no more caulis to come.Originally posted by lynda66 View Post

i think it is hazel ..... if you look at the ones you buy they have loads of close growing tight fitting leaves ...... my all year round haven't got anywhere near that amount, which is why i'm trying the self blanching ones got them here

There's something about caulie's we don't understand Hazel. They are very easy in fields and quite tricky in gardens. It seems they are happy when growing in acres of their own kind but much less happy when surrounded by foreigners. I think they give off something which signals cauliflower heaven when they are in large numbers but it's absent in small vegetable patches. Maybe one of our horticulture graduates will come along and put the scientific words on this.

I believe All the Year Round are very fast, although as Lynda says you may sacrifice quality...! I'm growing them anyway, caulis a total write-off this year so here's hoping... I've also got some Maystar I bought as plug plants a few weeks ago which I'm hoping will be ready by May, if they survive that is!Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
