Capsium Annuum is rather a generic name to a whole group of peppers and is usually followed by another latin name such as longum or conoide to further describe the shape. All fruits should be edible but the actual name of the plant would need to be further narrowed down.
eg Apache, Fiesta, Etna, Hungarian Hot wax, Thai Dragon etc etc are all capsium annuum.

Hi Coffee time,

Here is an chillie data base web, it might not always help with the ID since not all chillies type has pictures but give it a try who knows you will find the match ID of your plant
http://www.g6csy.net/chile/database.html

Good luck,
Momol
