I spotted a variety called Robin Hood and wondered if anyone had tried growing them?

Sorry, I've never tried Robin Hood. I didn't have much luck with The Sutton either though. I found they produced lots of flowers but hardly any beans from them. I'm trying a crimson flowered one next after a rash impulse buy at Wisley - I'm not expecting a good yield as the beans are supposed to be quite small but at least it will look pretty!Last edited by elleme; 10-12-2015, 02:14 PM. -

Spoke to soon! Went and checked in my greenhouse bed this evening and there's about a dozen broadies showing there heads above ground!

I was just looking up broad bean trials with the RHS today, and Robin Hood was given an AGM in 2011. It said the yield was good, as well as being dwarf/good for small gardens etc.Comment

Had a look at my The Sutton in the greenhouse bed and every seed has taken and they are about 3 inches high now.No complaints up til now

I always grow these and they're very prolific on my plot even if the plants aren't the tallest. Certainly wouldn't call them small.Originally posted by elleme View Post
